Scripture: For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men–the testimony given in its proper time. And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle–I am telling the truth, I am not lying–and a teacher of the true faith to the Gentiles. 1 Timothy 2:5-7 NIV
Observation: Paul speaks of being the apostle to the Gentiles.
Application: I believe that “Moviepastor” in his article, “Here’s Why Everything Matters” which covers verses 4-7 of 1 Timothy says it best. He writes,
“God wants everyone to be saved. Maybe if our prayer life is right (mine needs a lot of work) then we would be about the Father’s business. Paul says pray – people are supposed to get saved and then verse seven is the kicker: 7) This is why God chose me to be a preacher and an apostle of the good news. I am telling the truth. I am not lying. God sent me to teach the Gentiles about faith and truth. This IS our purpose, to tell people the good news about Christ! He goes on in the rest of the verses to say that’s why you pray, innocently, not at war with each other and not drawing attention to yourself. More people get wrapped up about the verses about women in the church. Paul is simply saying, stop drawing attention to yourself and spend your life drawing people’s attention to Christ who is all that matters.
Prayer: “Moviepastor” prays, “Jesus – Let me live a life that draws people to you – not attention to me.” I say, Amen
