Scripture: Then Paul and Barnabas answered them boldly: “We had to speak the word of God to you first. Since you reject it and do not consider yourselves worthy of eternal life, we now turn to the Gentiles.
Acts 13:46 NIV
Observation: Paul and Barnabas are addressing the Jewish leaders about the truth of Christ and their unacceptance of Him.
Application: Paul and Barnabas lay the truth of the Jewish leader’s destiny squarely at their feet. “We brought the good news to you first, you would have none of it, so we took it to the Gentiles.” It’s sad but true, but since those leaders made the fateful decision to consider themselves unworthy of eternal life, I get to be grafted in. Literally from this passage, Paul and Barnabas had to “turn to the Gentiles” because the Jews rejected the message. Praise God that the opportunity has been given to us to hear and accept the gospel. Clearly the choice to accept or reject Christ is ours to make. Don’t make the same decision that the Jewish leaders made. Don’t consider yourself “unworthy of eternal life.”
Prayer: Lord, thank you for sending Paul and Barnabus to us. I weep for the Jewish leaders that facilitated the gospel being brought to us because they rejected it. I pray for sinners to stop considering themselves unworthy of eternal life and for them to accept Christ’s sacrifice for their salvation. Amen
