Scripture: Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not be afraid of the people of the land, because we will swallow them up. Their protection is gone, but the Lord is with us. Do not be afraid of them. Numbers 14:9 NIV
Observation: Joshua and Caleb go against the reigning sentiment of those who spied out the promised land.
Application: Joshua and Caleb trusted in the Lord and had faith that he would deliver what he promised. Unlike most of the Israelite nation these two men weren’t short-sighted or impatient. They had been witness to one miraculous thing after another as God brought the nation to this point in its history. However, like a lot of us, the Israelites were a bunch of “what-have-you-done-for-me-latelies?” Joshua and Caleb were ready to go in and take what God told them was going to be theirs but because of the grumbling and unfaithfulness of the nation a purging had to take place first. Because of their faith Joshua and Caleb got to go into the promised land but they were the only ones of their generation who did not grumble that got to. May we be faithful servants of the Lord like Joshua and Caleb.
Prayer: Lord, I want to be faithful like Joshua or Caleb. You spoke and they believed. Lord I pray for that kind of faith. Give me the strength Lord. Amen
