Scripture: “Submit to God and be at peace with him; in this way prosperity will come to you. Accept instruction from his mouth and lay up his words in your heart.” Job 22:21,22 NIV
Observation: Job’s friend, Eliphaz the Temanite continues to give him advice.
Application: No doubt you’ve heard the saying, “even a broke clock is right twice a day.” So it is with Job’s friends. For the most part throughout the book they have been telling Job how awful and deserving of punishment he has been. However, in these passages, Eliphaz has spoken wisdom to all of us. Submit to God’s will and accept his instruction and all will go well with you. Now that’s advice that I can take, even if it does happen to come from a self-important “friend” of Job.
Prayer: Father, thank you for allowing truth to be found in unlikely places–even at times in the words of the pompous among us. Help me to hide your word in my heart. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen
