Scripture: Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. Jesus said to them, “Only in his hometown, among his relatives and in his own house is a prophet without honor.” He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. Mark 6:3-5 NIV
Observation: Jesus goes to his hometown and is rejected by those that had known him his entire life.
Application: I believe that these passages illustrate the difficulty with which many new believers are faced. Often times, the people that know you best are the last to accept that you’ve had a change in your heart. I believe that Satan will use that rejection to bring doubt into your mind and affect your relationship with the Lord. Pray for strength in the face of opposition.
Prayer: Father, I ask for the strength to endure criticism and disbelief of my relationship with you. Keep Satan from bringing doubt into my mind. I know that you changed me from what I used to be. Help me to always demonstrate that new life in front of those that know me best. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen
