The Lord Knows Me Inside and Out

Scripture: The word of the LORD came to me, saying, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew (chose) you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.  “Ah, Sovereign LORD,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am only a child.” But the LORD said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am only a child.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. 8 Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the LORD. Jeremiah 1: 4-6

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you  when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body.  All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.   Psalms 139: 13-16

Observation: The Lord knew Jeremiah, he knew his strengthens and weaknesses.  Here he tells Jeremiah God has chosen him and that He will not only protect him, but that he will supply Jeremiah with the words needed to tell God’s people His message of faith and rescue.  Jeremiah reluctantly, says ” I am only a child.”  Don’t we all feel like that?  The Lord firmly and gently instructs Jeremiah that he has a job to do and that he will provide everything he needs to complete the task.

Application: How easily I forget that the Lord knows me inside and out.  That he has destined me to do his work and he has a plan.  I make things difficult for myself when I’m not seeking him or in tune with his plan for me.  His plan of me is not a secret just as my sin is not a secret to him.  The Lord knit me together in my mother’s womb and at that moment he knew all the sorrow, joy and fulfilment my life would experience.  He has created me to to share his love with others and to share his truth.  I’m no different than Jeremiah and neither are you my dear friends.   I need to listen and focus daily on what He has planned not what I want or what I think I can’t do.  Jesus is ready to supply me with the courage, knowledge even the very words I need in my daily life to live according to his will and to accomplish his work.

Prayer: Thank you Lord for putting Jeremiah in your word and sharing his life and faith with me.  It’s such a good example of how you know me and have a plan for my life bigger than I could ever dream.  Lord, help me recognize you and hear your voice through your word.  Give me the courage to stand for you, to speak your truth and to love those around me with your love. Amen
