Scripture: For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Luke 12:34 NIV
Observation: Jesus is giving warnings and encouragement to a gathered group.
Application: I just got back from a short vacation to celebrate my anniversary. We went to a beautiful area of the Ozarks and we were pampered for four days. As I was in the midst of that time of relaxation I found myself envying the people fortunate enough to be able to live there. I know what I have in the way of possessions and I know that the prospect of that increasing in the future is not great. I began to feel blue that I will never be wealthy enough to just relax by a lake full-time. So the Lord gave me this scripture today. What do I truly value? Is it possessions and property or is it that God loves me enough to continue to bring me back to my senses and refocus me toward real treasure? I think I probably value God’s love for me more than a cushy life at the lake.
Prayer: Father, thank you for the reminder of what is of real value. The world that you created is full of so much beauty but none of that compares to the beauty of the salvation plan that you had Jesus fulfill for me. Thanks again for refocusing me. Amen
