Scripture: “The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will punish all who are circumcised only in the flesh—Egypt, Judah, Edom, Ammon, Moab and all who live in the desert in distant places. For all these nations are really uncircumcised, and even the whole house of Israel is uncircumcised in heart.” Jeremiah 9:25,26 NIV
Observation: The Lord speaks of punishing those that do not follow his will wholeheartedly.
Application: In Jeremiah 9 we see an Old Testament glimpse of a New Testament reality. Jeremiah speaks God’s words of condemnation to the nation of Israel for not being true followers of him. Within that condemnation Jeremiah speaks of the nation not being “circumcised in heart.” That ability for all men, not just Israel, was found in the Lord Jesus Christ; our New Testament reality. It is for us to circumcise our hearts of our worldly ways and give that circumcised heart to Jesus and allow him to reign in our lives.
Prayer: Father, thank you for Jesus. I want to permanently put all worldly desires out of my heart and I want Jesus to rule in my life. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen
