Scripture: Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, with ten thousand rivers of oil? Shall I offer my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:7,8 NIV
Observation: The Prophet really puts into a nutshell for me what God the Father wants of us.
Application: Accepting that Christ sacrificed himself on the cross to atone for our sins is the one-and-only requirement to achieve eternal life, that’s a fact! That truth aside, we have a responsibility to our Father and those around us. Micah, this Old Testament prophet, was speaking to God’s defiant people about the futility of blood sacrifice versus personal, “heart change,” sacrifice. In doing so he gives us a pretty good outline of Godly, Christian behavior. Love truth, justice, and honesty, be kind to others, be humble expecting nothing in return, and do it all because you love the Lord. That’s a recipe for success as a Christian.
Prayer: Father, thank you for loving me and sacrificing Jesus to allow me access to you. Help me to love others more than myself because that’s what Jesus modeled for me. I love you and I thank you in Jesus’ name. Amen
