Scripture: “The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign Lord, “when I will send a famine through the land— not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord. Men will stagger from sea to sea and wander from north to east, searching for the word of the Lord, but they will not find it. Amos 8:11,12 NIV
Observation: I believe that Amos was specifically prophesying about Israel but his words are not encouraging for “fence sitters” and luke-warm Christians, “…not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord.” Amos 8:11b NIV
Application: Is this only an Old Testament prophecy for Israel or does it apply to the coming end times and uncommitted immature Christians? My understanding of the post-rapture time is that the Holy Spirit, our Advocate, will leave this world when Jesus takes the Church home. I believe that Amos is speaking of a time at the end when the Church has been raptured and the Holy Spirit is no longer on earth. Attention: “luke-warms” and fence sitters, commit to Christ and stop playing Christian. If you wait too long you may find yourselves without the word and your Advocate to strengthen you through tough times. I believe that Amos is speaking truth to us today!
Prayer: Father, I ask in Jesus’ name for strength. Strength to resist Satan’s schemes to take me down and strength to help the “luke-warms” in my life to find and commit to you. Amen
