Scripture: Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. 1 Timothy 4:12 NIV
Observation: Paul is instructing Timothy about how he should conduct himself before the church that he is serving.
Application: This passage is instruction for Timothy about how he should interact and instruct the church that he serves. As I work in church camp this month I see that there are many Spirit-filled youth that need to understand what Paul was saying to Timothy. I believe that Paul’s instruction is applicable to these young people that are serving the campers this summer. There are many young people that are on fire for the Lord. However, because of their age they feel that they have nothing to offer. I believe that Paul is instructing otherwise. I believe that he is saying that they should follow the leading of the Spirit and not be discouraged or intimidated into quietness by us “godly” elders. Chronological age and spiritual maturity are two different things. If a young person has a good word to share from the Lord they should share it.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I pray for the young people in camp to be able to recognize when you are speaking to them. I further ask that you give them courage to share you with their elders and classmates this coming school year. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen
