Scripture: But, “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.” For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends. 2 Corinthians 10:17,18 NIV
Observation: Paul instructs the Corinthians to focus their adoration on God, not themselves.
Application: I think about this passage in the light of modern politics and I think about how out of sync most of today’s politicians are with the Lord. If only politicians took this passage to heart. “Love God and be concerned about what pleases him first and foremost.” “Don’t put myself first.” “Think of others as more important than myself.” Novel concepts! Our elected leaders are so full of themselves that in most cases there isn’t any room for God, let alone any possibility of him singing their praises. We Christians, also must beware of pride in ourselves at the expense of the Lord. If we, and especially our politicians, would all conduct ourselves to build others up for God’s sake, I can only imagine how much more healthy our society and our country would be. Let that be our prayer.
Prayer: Father, heal our nation. I pray for our elected officials and I pray that they yield to your will. I pray that they live for you, loving others, and guide our nation based on your principles. I not only pray that for our elected leaders but also for me personally. I pray to yield to your will so that any boasting that I might do would be boasting about what an awesome God you are. Father, I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen
