Scripture: At that time I will carry out against Eli everything I spoke against his family—from beginning to end. For I told him that I would judge his family forever because of the sin he knew about; his sons made themselves contemptible, and he failed to restrain them. 1 Samuel 3:12,13 NIV
Observation: Eli, his family, and his ministry are lost to sin.
Application: Eli knew that his sons Hophni and Phinehas constantly blasphemed God by their practices and he did nothing to stop them. God allowed the Philistines to kill Hophni and Phinehas. Eli lost his sons, his ministry, and ultimately his life because of his sin of neglect. Parents owe it to their children to lovingly guide and instruct them in the ways of the Lord. Eli apparently failed in early instruction of Hophni and Phinehas and their evil ways ended in their and Eli’s destruction.
Prayer: Father, I pray that parents look to you to guide them in the love and instruction of their children. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen
