Scripture: So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.
1Corinthians 10:12,13 NIV
Observation: Paul explains to the Corinthians that when they think they are standing strong under pressure they may fall. However, no matter how difficult things become God will give them the ability to cope.
Application: We too must be aware that Satan would love nothing more than to take our times of feeling strong in our faith and to turn them into pride. He would then revel in triumph as he watches us fall. We must pray to keep pride out of our lives and to keep our focus on God–this honors him. It is at times when we are the most satisfied with our faithfulness and feel that we are living for God that we could be at our most vulnerable. But fear not, if we find ourselves failing or feeling overwhelmed we have but to remember, “he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear.” Now that’s a promise I can live with, how about you?
Prayer: Father, help me to keep my eyes on you and keep pride out of my life. Thank you for promising me that you will not make me endure trouble beyond my ability. I love you. Amen
