Scripture: On hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
Mark 2:17 NIV
Observation: The church leaders, Pharisees, who were worshippers of the God of Abraham didn’t want Jesus socializing with the” sinners” and tax collectors. These people were seen as being less worthy and of lower status within their culture. Jesus clearly tells them we need to be focused on all sinners. Sin is a sickness that destroys us mentally and physically. Only through Christ’s healing power of forgiveness can we be healed.
Application: Attending church, reading and studying your bible, folding bulletins, teaching Sunday school, they all are important for building our relationship with the Lord. But we have a more important responsibility which is to have an affect for Christ on everyone we come into contact with. The world is in need of healing and truth. Now more than ever Christians need to show what we are about by having Christ-like behavior and taking every opportunity to share the gospel. The Lord has put this on my heart almost continually which tells me I must preserve.
Prayer: Lord, I get it, I must take it up a notch! Put the sick and needy in my path. Give me the wisdom and sensitivity to share you with them. Through my loss and trials let your presence in my life be visible to those around me. Amen
